It seems like only yesterday that we wrote about Floripa opening at the building No. 4 along Yahya Kemal Caddesi in Rumelihisarı. Alas, it seems the eatery fell prey to the curse of this address and had to shut its doors. Now, there’s another brave soul in the building with the ambition to reverse the curse.
The brainchild of experienced restaurateur Gül Etker, Kiss the Frog is unique in both its décor and fare. Its red exterior and bamboo accents make us feel as if we’re in a casual restaurant at a seaside resort. The eatery specializes in inventive seafood dishes you likely won’t find anywhere else. Among our favorites was the grilled octopus served with Aegean herbs (36 TL), which had a velvety texture and smelled as if it had just been caught, unlike the chewy octopus served in too many restaurants throughout the city. Another great find was the tuna tataki pizza (33 TL) from the wood-fired oven, which comes with beet, ink fish, and whole wheat or plain crust. If you’re a fan of sushi, the Rich Frog (32 TL) blending shrimp, crabmeat and octopus is a must-try. As for the grand finale, look to none other than the tantalizing After Eight (16 TL), which is too big for one person to finish alone. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
