It’s impossible to miss La Boom as you’re making your way from Emirgan to Sarıyer. This New York neighbourhood bistro-inspired eatery offers a menu of assorted dishes meant to draw you in at any hour of the day, particularly if you’ve got the luxury of time to cosy up to breakfast or a cup of coffee overlooking the Bosphorus from its terrace.
The crabs flavoured with black pepper and cream, served in oyster shells, make for a satisfying starter. We followed that up with the Rigatoni Pitti, a light specialty made with smoked turkey, peas, garlicky tomato sauce and a little cream. The only truly satisfying part of our meal, however, was the Pralin Fete, a thick chocolate mousse served on a cookie-like base that we had quite literally wiped clean before the guilt even had time to settle in.
Though we visited La Boom during lunchtime, we were told that the venue takes on a more lounge-y atmosphere closer to evening, with the light house music turned up to coax visitors into trying one of Ferda Şen’s cocktails.
