Founder Niyazi Manav, learnt his trade from the original creator of the dish, İskender Efendi’s nephew. The Maltepe branch has four storeys, a terrace, balcony, and garden. Especially on summer days we recommend the terrace. Here, Iskender is served with a fillet and roasted aubergine. The ‘şiş’ (skewers) are marinated and wrapped in dough before they are cooked in the oven. The ‘drape pilaf’ (rice with chicken and currants wrapped in a pastry shell) which originates in the Siirt region is a must try. Nothing much has to be said about Niyazibey İskender; with its memorable food and conscientious service, it’s a true Istanbul classic.
