A hip young thing from Croydon who takes a damn good picture and makes funky but futuristic R&B that oozes sweet, sweet soul.
There’s no escaping how similar his silky vocal tones are to the most famous member of the Jackson Five. Not in a rippy-offy way, though – dude just sings like Jacko. But Dornik isn’t on a nostalgia trip; as well as acknowledging funk greats – Prince is clearly an influence – his sound incorporates glistening electronic flourishes that keep things thoroughly fresh.
He used to be Jessie Ware’s drummer, but he doesn’t need to namedrop. Since signing to tastemaking label PMR he’s been making soul-soothing spacy jams, including ‘Something About You’ and upcoming single ‘Stand in Your Line’, both of which are on his newly released self-titled debut album.
