From rhinestone nail art to sneaker wedges, admittedly, not everything you purchased last year was an investment piece. If only you had the foresight of MOCA, who added 117 quality works to its already astounding 6,700-piece permanent collection last year. Check out MOCA's Permanent Collection: A Selection of Recent Acquisitions, which exhibits newly purchased and gifted works by artists that include Felix Gonzales-Torres, David Altmejd, Jim Drain, Ben Jones, Mike Kelley, Liz Larner and more. While you're there, stop by and see the concurrent exhibition, A Point of View: Selected Gifts from the Lawrence A. Rickels Collection, which includes gifts made in 2011. Highlights from the 122 works, made mostly from 1993-2003 by Los Angeles artists, include pieces from Catherine Opie, John Baldessari, Sharon Lockhart, Raymond Pettibon, and more. It kind of puts that furry vest you bought a couple of years ago to shame.
