Check it out: Los Angeles has a Facial Hair Society. It's filled with beautiful, proud, hairy men eager to show off their flowing locks, which is exactly what they did last Saturday at North Hollywood's Federal Bar during the group's first Beard and Mustache Competition. Good-natured gents, many in full costume (old timey britches and suspenders, capes and tophats, a tutu and, inexplicably, a faux Taco Bell uniform), competed in categories including natural and styled mustache, natural and styled beard, goatee, "freestyle" (which accounts for the curlycued coifs) and best in show. There was also a "whiskerinas" category just for ladies, with beards and 'staches creatively fashioned from things like feather boas, bike tires and popcorn. Beard oil merchants hawked their wares, free Newcastle beer (the event's sponsor) flowed and bronze, silver and gold bearded bear plaques were handed out to the winners. It was a raucous, revelrous event, and now we're more convinced than ever that beardos throw the best parties. Check out our best shots from the evening's festivities.
