The teams behind "A Day in Miami" podcast and Sanguich are aiming to break records at Red Bull Flugtag Miami.

The iconic Cuban sandwich will soon reach new heights (hopefully) this weekend in Miami. On Saturday, October 31, an oversized, human-powered flying craft shaped like the classic pressed favorite will attempt to soar across Biscayne Bay. Dubbed "The Cuban Flyer," this airborne delicacy is set to take center stage at Bayfront Park as part of Red Bull Flugtag Miami.
The ambitious project is a collaborative effort between popular local podcast A Day in Miami and Sanguich, the Little Havana-born sandwich spot boasting five consecutive Michelin Bib Gourmand honors. A five-man team—comprising A Day in Miami’s Eduardo “Eddy” Moya and Kiko Suarez, Sanguich co-founder and trained engineer Daniel Figueredo, consultant Juan Pablo Gane, and CPA Jorge Dueñas—has traded standard kitchen prep for aerodynamics to turn ham, roasted pork, Swiss cheese, pickles and mustard into a viable flying machine.

While the engineering feat is daunting, the crew isn't keeping the process a secret. Fans following along on social media, YouTube and podcast platforms have gotten a weekly peek behind the scenes. Released every Friday leading up to event day, these episodic videos capture the construction progress, structural setbacks, creative tweaks and local business partnerships required to lift a heavy-duty sandwich off the ground.
However, the true test arrives on October 31 from 11am to 4pm, when thousands will gather at Bayfront Park to watch homemade craft launch off a pier. Far from just a fun novelty stunt, the crew has set a serious objective: shattering the Red Bull Flugtag world distance record of 78.5 meters (approximately 257.5 feet). Beyond aiming for the record books, the project serves as a sky-high tribute to Cuban heritage, local entrepreneurship and the vibrant Miami spirit that brings the community together.
The event is free and open to the public so mark your calendars and come out to see whether "The Cuban Flyer" achieves record-breaking glide time or plunges to a soggy end. Get all the details on the RedBull website.
