A snazzy new underground bar arrives in South Beach from the teams behind Schmuck and Medium Cool—and it has a custom martini cart

South Beach’s next major drinking destination is going underground—and bringing tuxedoed servers, vintage booze and a roving martini cart along for the ride.

Zebra Club, an elegant new subterranean bar, is set to open this fall beneath the Townhouse Hotel on 20th Street, just half a block from the beach. The project brings together a decorated group of Miami hospitality heavyweights: James Beard Award-winning chef Michelle Bernstein, cocktail expert Naren Young and operators Dan Binkiewicz and David Martinez.

Collectively, the team has helped shape some of the country’s most celebrated bars, including Miami favorites Medium Cool, Sweet Liberty and Café La Trova, as well as NYC's East Village hotspot Schmuck. That last bar was named Best New U.S. Cocktail Bar at the 2026 Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards and landed at number four on North America’s 50 Best Bars list.

As Zebra Club, tucked below street level, the intimate room will feature crystal chandeliers, curving red banquettes and a dramatic marble-topped bar. Servers dressed in tuxedo jackets will circulate with a custom Martini cart, presumably making it easier than ever to order something extremely cold, directly beside your table.

Young, who previously led New York’s Dante when it was crowned the World’s Best Bar in 2019, is developing Zebra Club’s drinks program. Along with cocktails mixed tableside, the menu will feature rare vintage spirits that Young is sourcing from around the country. (Specific drinks have not yet been revealed, so we’ll have to wait to find out exactly what the cart is carrying.)

Bernstein, meanwhile, is creating a food menu shaped by global influences and a distinctly Miami perspective. The local chef earned the James Beard Award for Best Chef: South in 2008 and has long been one of the city’s most recognizable culinary names. The entertainment won’t stop with dinner and drinks. On weekends, a rotating group of house performers will help set the mood, adding another layer of nightlife energy to the polished hideaway.

An exact opening date is still under wraps, but Zebra Club is currently expected to debut sometime this fall. Between the knockout pedigree, chandelier-lit room and martinis that come to you, consider this one firmly on our South Beach watch list.
