Coconut Grove was home to hippies, then college kids (we can still taste Moe’s Moose Juice) and now the neighborhood has morphed into a foodie enclave. Whether it’s Italian, Thai, Cuban-American or even vegan, every single type of cuisine is represented in a three-block radius. But there’s room for more. In the next seven days, Coconut Grove will get three new restaurants—a Colombian transplant, a Grove second-act and yet another pizza spot, only this time with a twist. Let us break it down for you.

Home By Gigi
3413 Main Hwy; 786-452-1050
Opening June 4

Gigi Alibhai, who owns the hybrid candy/ice-cream/toy store Smooshies on Main, partners with Grove fixture chef Sebastian Fernandez (formerly of 33 Kitchen) to open Gigi on the shop’s second floor. The café plans to open daily from 8am to 5pm, serving affordable breakfast staples—oatmeal, granola, pancakes—and salads and pasta for lunch.

Present
3195 Commodore Plz
Opening June 4

On the subject of 33 Kitchen, Colombian bakery Present opens its first stateside outpost in the restaurant’s former location. Little has been revealed about the artisanal eatery’s menu, but so far Present’s Instagram has teased us with the promise of voluptuous loaves and buttery croissants. Hopefully, pan de bono will also be in the mix.

Next Generation Pizza
2895 McFarlane Rd; 305-569-4300
Opening June 2

The team behind Choices Cafe recently grew its Coconut Grove location into a small vegan food hall, and this weekend it welcomes the area’s first vegan pizzeria. Next Generation makes it three pizza places in the neighborhood, which is already home to Harry’s Pizzeria and Farinelli 1937. This one, however, will serve 100 percent plant-based pies. Because summer.
