The term “vegan” might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of nightlife entrepreneur and, as of late, restaurateur David Grutman. But that’s all about to change.

This Thursday, March 1, Grutman—in partnership with Toronto’s Chase Hospitality Group—introduces Planta: a new plant-based restaurant in South Beach’s South of Fifth neighborhood.

Located down the street from Joe’s Stone Crab in the former Porifirio spot, Planta’s massive 200-seat space has multiple dining rooms, a terrace and a dedicated veggie sushi bar that doles out all sorts of hand rolls, wraps and nigiri. The rest of executive chef David Lee’s menu is a smattering of indulgent dishes dialed down for the plant-based crowd, like mushroom pizza and Korean fried cauliflower lettuce wraps. For the health-conscious boozer, Planta serves cold-press juice cocktails, plus other body-curing (non-alcoholic) shots.

In case you haven’t been following Grutman’s every move, Planta, his third restaurant behind Komodo and OTL, opens ahead of his much-anticipated doughnut shop on Española Way. We can’t speak on his eating habits, but at least Grutman’s business portfolio is seemingly balanced.
