Miami Beach extends its emergency orders one more week

Curfews and closures continue

Miami Beach commissioners may be eager for businesses to reopen, but the city isn’t budging. Today, the city manager extended his State of Emergency Declaration, the Safer at Home Emergency Order and the Emergency Measures through May 14. These orders were put in place weeks ago and already extended last week through May 7, but the City Manager finds that it’s “necessary to continue to take immediate action to control and reduce threats associated with Covid-19.”

What are some of the things staying the same?
-A midnight curfew will still be in effect for Miami Beach
-Face coverings will remain a requirement for people when out in public, including parks
-Parking in city lots will be restricted to residents
-Select parks will remain open from 7am to 7pm
-Golf courses will remain open from 7am–8pm
-Boat ramps will remain open from 6am–8pm
-Beaches will remain closed
-Beachwalks and baywalks remain open to pedestrians before 9am and after 5pm each day

As is true of all emergency orders issued by officials, social-distancing guidelines will be strictly enforced. Folks must stay six-feet apart, wear face and nose coverings and limit groups to less than 10 people. Just this week, South Pointe Park closed suddenly after reopening, when Miami Beach Police issued more than 7,000 warnings to people not following these guidelines. The excitement of hanging out at South Beach’s most popular park got the best of people, and now, sadly, the city is buckling down.
