And we're not surprised.

For years, Time Out has ranked the best cities in the world based on very valuable intel we receive from you, our readers. As such, we quizzed more than 20,000 city-dwellers worldwide to come up with this year’s list of the best cities in the world for 2022, and the results of the Time Out Index will surprise you.

After crunching all that data and mulling over answers to questions like which neighborhoods in your city are actually cool and what the restaurants are like where you live, Time Out has declared Edinburgh as the best place to live right now. Imagine that! Now, onto the stuff you really care about: what’s the best city in the world for nightlife? After all, Miamians love a good party.

Third on the list of the places to live but first in terms of the world’s greatest party destinations is Medellín. It earned 90 percent of the votes, which is not all that surprising given this is the city that gave us reggaeton artists J Balvin, Maluma and Karol G. Plus, hot spots like El Social, Salón Amador, Vintrash or any bar along La 70 will show you a good time, says Time Out writer Laura Field.

Don’t fret—Miami didn’t fall far behind, coming in second place for the world’s best nightlife scene, according to locals. If you’ve seen the lineup at LIV or Story, you’ll agree there’s no better place to go out in the U.S. than Miami. Not only did Drake throw his latest album release party in South Beach but with Swim Week just around the corner, you can expect more next-level partying to happen in the Magic City this summer—and the rest of the year for that matter.
