Rummaging through novels and swapping paperbacks with strangers might be on hold for now, but literary fairs, thankfully, can still go on.

This June, the Little Haiti Book Festival returns online with a month of programming you can enjoy right from your living room. The series of virtual events—made possible by the Miami Book Fair in partnership with Sosyete Koukouy, Liberi Mapou and Books & Books—feature readings with prominent Haitian authors, panels on folklore and ways to preserve heritage, and topical discussions with medical professionals about the pandemic’s effect on the community at large. There’s also a whole Saturday lineup dedicated to kids, presenting webcasts with sing-alongs and dancers just for little ones. Adult programming is scheduled for Sundays at 2pm while children’s events take place on Saturdays at 2pm; both can be streamed here and here.

In past years, authors from the Haitian diaspora, dancers, musicians, booksellers and so many more from Miami’s thriving Caribbean community descended on the Little Haiti Cultural Center for two days of family-friendly entertainment. From panel discussions and presentations to a street fair and musical performances, it was a fully immersive experience. This month’s virtual deep dive should be no different, promising the same level of excitement even as folks celebrate the vibrant cultures of the Caribbean from a distance.
