There isn’t a panorama Breakwater Hospitality, the group behind the Wharf, can’t make interesting. They took an empty lot along the dodgy Miami River and gave us a whole new section of Downtown to appreciate. Similarly, the Wharf Fort Lauderdale contributed to the scene that is now the bustling Las Olas Riverfront. And the next piece of property they’re pioneering is inland, with entertainment more thrilling than any water view could provide.
Introducing the Carousel Club, a whimsical open-air lounge overlooking Gulfstream Park’s racetrack. Created in collaboration with 1/ST EXPERIENCE—the entertainment brand under the operators of Gulfstream Park—the expansive, tented space combines a deck with couches and bungalow seating, a lawn for games and—the pièce de résistance—a large antique carousel that doubles as a bar, surrounded by seating and nearby high-tops where you’ll be just close enough to the action.
Daytime, Carousel Club aims for a family-friendly atmosphere and a lively place to watch the Thoroughbred races. At night, expect the space to turn into a full-blown outdoor club with DJs, bottle service, craft cocktails and the possibility of live entertainment. Food will be available throughout the day courtesy of pop-ups from the likes of Spris Artisan Pizza and Mad Room Hospitality’s Los Altos Taqueria. “We love the tradition behind the sport but also appreciate that this concept is more than just about Thoroughbred horse racing. It allows us to showcase our form of hospitality in such a chic and unique setting,” says Emi Guerra, coowner of Breakwater Hospitality Group.
That said, an interest in horse racing isn’t required for entry—Carousel Club opens to the public weekly Friday, Saturday and Sunday starting at noon on February 18. Visit their website for a complimentary cocktail during opening weekend, February 18–20.
