On Tuesday morning, a mix of heavy snow and rain caused significant power outages in several regions.

In Montreal, approximately 49,035 customers out of just over a million were without electricity.

According to Hydro-Québec, wet snow, weighed down by strong winds, weakened trees still bearing leaves, caused branches to fall onto the power grid due to the extra weight.

The Hydro Quebec site states that crews have been mobilized to restore service as quickly as possible.

In Montérégie alone, nearly 114,000 homes were affected, with more than 77,000 addresses without power in Lanaudière.
