Snow, rain, sleet, freezing rain—winter is about to unleash on Montreal (again) between now and Friday.

A special weather statement issued by Environment Canada is calling for periods of freezing rain overnight tonight and early Thursday morning.

Snow is also in the forecast late Wednesday evening, followed by a short period of freezing rain on Thursday morning—with up to 2 mm of freezing rain possible.

According to a report by MeteoMedia, the flakes on Wednesday will turn to sleet, then rain—with freezing rain across Greater Montreal before dawn.

By Thursday morning, the city could wake under a thin glaze of ice with temperatures expected to rise above freezing by mid-morning.

As the mercury climbs, precipitation will shift to rain in Montreal, with Southern Quebec seeing between 10-20 mm of rain.

What month is spring in Montreal?

Montreal in spring (late March to May) is an unpredictable season that can feature lingering snow, blooming flowers and trees, and / or a messy mix of both.

Unpredictable weather? It's time for indoor fun. Whether you’re taking the REM directly into the Montreal Eaton Centre, or exploring the Underground City, Downtown Montreal is a playground for all ages—even when it’s messy outside.

Visit Time Out Market Montréal on Saturdays for kid-friendly activities and live music on Sundays. Hit the Market's fuseball table, the arcades or the photo boot—and enjoy free temporary airbrush tattoos, a yolk poetry pop-up or a clown.

Bonus: one of Downtown's largest entertainment centres is right across the hall.
