The event creator says
MAHAYLA

Mahayla’s resurgence has seen them share the stage with the likes of the Meat Puppets, the Breeders, Sebadoh, Cracker and Camper van Beethoven. They have also taken their show on the road, including a very successful showcase at SXSW.

They have fully committed to their craft, investing every resource they have into not only songwriting, but also packaging and promotion. They started their own label, Serial Lover Records, to serve as a vehicle for not only Fera’s output, but also the projects of the satellite musicians and collaborators Mahayla and its members work with.

A reignited passion, a new maturity, an understanding of past mistakes and an album loaded with their own recipe of indie-pop has ushered in an exciting new chapter to one of New Orleans’ longest tenured alternatives to its brass and jazz heritage

GHOSTBOXING CHAMPION

In 2003, Professional Drummer, Bryan Besse, who can be seen most nights playing trad-jazz at Fritzel's on Bourbon, started a collaboration with Singer-Guitarist, Travis Shuler which became New Orleans' Post-Punk Inspired stalwarts, The Public (Five03 records). After their Bassist, Ryan Plattsmier's tragic death in 2008, the group reformed with Ronan Bradley before calling it quits in 2011 with Guitarist Jack Champagne moving on to start Kindest Lines (Wierd Records).

Ghostboxing Champion sees the revival of that original collaboration in the form of a guitar laden, rythmically complex, hazy pop deconstruction of 80s/90s Manchester by way of Lower Decatur street while evoking the 80s US Indie Idols such as Mission of Burma, IRS era R.E.M and The Pixies. Ghostboxing Champion is completed expertly by local Bassist, Dray Williams, and will be recording their debut this summer.
