Making Do says
In the first few months of rebuilding after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, one notable element of New Orleanians’ innovation was street signs hand-made by residents from whatever materials were available. The signs were especially necessary to direct contractors and volunteers from out of town to worksites, and many have remained installed years later, reminding neighbors of the creativity required to get through trying situations.

Making Do is an exhibition of works in which artists from around the country create innovative solutions (to problems of their own creation) while equipped with ad hoc, insufficient or inappropriate materials.
