New Belgium Brewing is proud to bring our 2016 Sour Beer Symposium to New Orleans, Louisiana, on Thursday March 10th. New Belgium's Wood Cellar Team- Sensory Specialst and Blender, Lauren Salazar (named Imbibe Magazine's 2016 Beer Person of the Year) and Cellar Meister, Eric Salazar (of Eric's Ale fame)- will be hosting. This will be one of five events held this year across the US.


Beer blending is a sensory art that has been relied on for centuries to create both balance and complexity. Many of today’s specialty beers originated as test blends, or in fact are themselves blends of several, or many, different beers. In this special seminar and workshop, we will take guests on a trip into New Belgium’s wood cellar, affectionately known as “Cache la Foeder”, where they will learn about NBB’s history as one of America’s leading producers of Belgian-style sour beers, from the wood cellar team themselves. The curators of NBB’s sour beer program will lead a slideshow & interactive discussion on the genesis of Wild Ales such as La Folie, Le Terroir, & others “from grain to glass”, with a focus on the blender’s art & techniques. This will be followed by a one-of-a-kind, hands-on blending workshop where guests will be led through the process of experimenting & creating their own blended beer to-taste, using samples of single-barrel unblended base beer straight from New Belgium’s oak cellar. Guests will document their blend ratios & see who has what it takes to be the next Master Blender.

The syposium consists of two seperate 2 hour sessions to choose from. The presentation will be the same for both. The first session will begin at 5pm and the second session at 8pm. Doors will be open thirty minutes prior to the start of the symposium for a round of beers. Tickets include beer, paired food and a blending seminar.
