No Fast Track! No Tpp! says
Join us on Thursday, May 28th at 10 am at the Carver Theater for an action directed at Mayor Landrieu and Representative Cedric Richmond to protest the TPP.

Right now our government is in the midst of deciding whether or not to give President Obama the ability to fast-track the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal. This deal was described by Global Trade Watch as being like “NAFTA on steroids.” Right now, the American public has no idea what is actually written in the deal. We have no sense of the regulations because we’re not allowed to read it. Very few people are able to read it and those who do are not allowed to disclose any details of the deal.

What we do know about the deal is not good. It was written by huge corporations behind closed doors. It undercuts American labor, further outsourcing jobs to countries with lower minimum wages and regulations than ours. It just about spells disaster for the environment, allowing oil and gas companies to sue governments that enact carbon taxes or get in the way of the corporation's’ interest, which would give corporations even more power.

The good news is that many people are coming out strongly against this bill. Political leaders like Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren are not backing down, even though the bill has already passed the Senate. Now this bill is about to go through the House of Representatives and we need to make sure it doesn’t pass. Our local representative Cedric Richmond has not yet officially taken a stand point on the TPP and we must pressure him to vote no.

On Thursday, Mayor Landrieu, who has come out in support of the TPP, is giving his State of the City address. We will be there and we want you to join us. There is a big possibility that Cedric Richmond will be at the event and we want to make sure he votes no.

Please join us on Thursday, May 28th at 10 am at the Carver Theater for a direct action calling on Mayor Landrieu and Representative Cedric Richmond to vote against the TPP.
