Screening Of Bayou Maharajah Support Team Nomc says
Join Team NOMC Funky Butts in a special screening of Bayou Maharajah at the historic Maple Leaf Bar, where Booker often played.

James Booker, known to his fans as the Bayou Maharajah, attracted audiences the world over with his unique virtuosic style combining classical, gospel, stride, jazz piano. In private, Booker self-medicated his mental illness with drugs and alcohol and routinely checked himself into Charity Hospital’s mental ward. In 1983 Booker was left unattended for hours in the Emergency Room. He died before receiving treatment at the age of 43 a tragic modern story that highlights how a lack of resources can lead to disaster for the crown jewel of New Orleans culture.

Following the movie there will be a short Q&A with Johnny Vidacovich, one of the drummers that had played with Booker. After the Q&A, Johnny will take the world famous stage with his Trio.

You will have a chance to join the team or show your support for the team members. The NAMI Walk takes place on Oct. 15th at Audubon Park. All funds raised by Team NOMC will go to help our patients.
