Tonight is the official opening of Serious Things A Go Happen featuring an exhibit viewing, artist talk and after-sounds with a special guest DJ SUZ the lobby.

The rundown:

4:00pm: Exhibition viewing in the Gallery.

An unofficial history of Jamaican dancehall music told through graphic design, the Serious Things a Go Happen book features over 100 original street posters and signs, drawn from the collection of Jamaican film producer Maxine Walters. The exhibition will feature a selection of these signs.

The book includes an introduction by Man Booker prize winner Marlon James, Novelist, as well as essays from reggae historian Vivien Goldman, and interviews with legendary Jamaican DJ Rory "Stone Love",Mikey Bennett, Denva Harris, and Tony Winkler, late author of The Lunatic.

Walters, who has been called “the Queen of Jamaican dancehall signs,” has amassed a collection of 4,000 street posters advertising dancehall parties called “Bashments".

All proceeds from book sales go to the Consie Walters Cancer Care Hospice in Kingston, Jamaica, supporting dignified final care for cancer patients.
