M. Blaine Miller was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He attended McNeese State university where he recieved a BFA in 2000. Blaine studied under Heather Ryan Kelly, Bill Iles, Gerry Wubben, Elemore Morgan Jr., and the decorative painting restorers from the Prado Palace Museum of Spain. Formerly the Assistant Director of the Imperial Calcasieu Museum, he is steeped in the history and folklore of Louisiana, and has worked for many years as a gallery curator and designer and as a decorative painter/muralist. He currently resides in the French Quarter in New Orleans and works as a concierge at the Ritz-Carlton. He lives with his partner Benjamin Murray who is a performer and artist as well. Blaine themes his work around figurative and decorative subjects, Louisiana history, his French culture and heritage, jazz and ragtime music and an over-arching classicism. Oil, acrylic, and mixed media are the essential mediums he works with but also historical process photography, digital media, print making, and wood working often figure into his oeuvre. After a hiatus from painting for the last few years, many of the pieces in this show are the first new pieces exhibited in public after five years.
