Wwoz Presents: Latcho Drom (1993) says
“This astonishing film traces the Rom people from India to Egypt, Turkey, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary, France and Spain, through their music and dance. The best music movie I have ever seen.” -- Alyssa A. Lappen

WWOZ and Indywood have teamed up to program a series of music documentaries, screening on the second Sunday of every month. Charlie Steiner, WWOZ’s video director, chose films that collectively reveal a great variety of cinematic approaches to exploring musicians and their music, and showcase many genres of music - traditional to experimental, jazz to rock and world.

In June a very special music film will be shown – Latcho Drom – a European film not well known in the US. The film, which won an award at the Cannes Film Festival, traces the route of Roma people from India through the Middle East and into Europe, through scenes shot in actual environments playing their rhythmic music and dancing. Flamenco and other variations on gypsy music are seen in relation to the culture from which they sprang in this passionate and stunningly photographed film.
