Jack Ryan is coming back out of retirement to kick ass and take names.

The hugely popular Prime Video spy series came to its conclusion in 2023, but now John Krasinski is back as the titular CIA agent for a full-length feature film.

Ghost War is a global thriller that brings Jack back into the lethal world of espionage with new allies and formidable enemies.

Here’s all you need to know about Jack Ryan: Ghost War.

Where was Jack Ryan: Ghost War filmed?

Filming for the latest Jack Ryan instalment took place across London, Dubai and New York.

Jack Ryan races through the streets of New York

At the beginning of Ghost War, former CIA agent Jack Ryan is seen jogging through New York City, but is soon sprinting for his life after noticing he’s being followed.

In a bid to escape his pursuers, Jack taps into his espionage training and races through restaurant kitchens, shops and alleyways.

These real locations include Marc Jacobs’ bookstore Bookmarc on Bleecker Street, and the dockside along the Brooklyn waterfront, as well as the Bowling Green, a historic public park at the intersection of Broadway and Whitehall Street.

There’s an epic London car chase

A high-speed car chase on the streets of central London is one of the film’s most exciting sequences, though slightly wishful thinking to think traffic would allow it.

Multiple cars whizz past some of the city’s most iconic landmarks while gunfire zips between vehicles, taking in the streets of Whitehall, from the Houses of Parliament and Downing Street, through Waterloo Bridge and ending in a fatal firefight outside St Paul’s Cathedral.

The big showdown with Crown was filmed in Trafalgar Square

After barely escaping with their lives, the CIA team tracks down the leader of the terrorist group in the middle of London’s Trafalgar Square. The statue of US president George Washington outside the National Portrait Gallery is the clue that leads them to the tourist hotspot.

CIA leader Greer confronts Crown over the brutal murders, but is blindsided by Jack Ryan’s own confession about the recent mission to Dubai.

It is clearly a popular location for spy movies, with last year’s Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning being bookended by two pivotal scenes at Trafalgar Square, though Tom Cruise and the crew went one step further by creating their own fictional tube station.

The MI6 safe house is actually a pub in Brentford

The Griffin pub in Brentford doubles up as The Black Flagon, a fictional boozer where the upstairs flat is a secret MI6 safe house.

Jack and Emma search the location for vital intel, using pre-internet technology to stay covert.

The Griffin has previously been used as a filming location for Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody and football drama Green Street.

Several real UK military airbases were used

With the movie spanning several continents, it’s no surprise that there’s plenty of action at international airports.

All were filmed in the UK, with several military bases used as filming locations, including RAF Northolt in Ruislip, West London and US Air Force base RAF Mildenhall in West Suffolk.

Also used were Biggin Hill airport and Farnborough airport, both of which are only used for non-commercial flights.

Two huge action sequences were filmed in Dubai

Two huge action scenes set in Dubai bookend Jack Ryan: Ghost War.

Avoiding spoiler territory, but one sequence that takes place at the start of the movie was filmed in the Dubai Marina and sees Jack Ryan meet MI6 agent Emma for the first time, but their collision has huge repercussions for the global mission.

The second half of the movie sees the CIA team return to Dubai. Another dramatic car chase takes place through Downtown Dubai and along the Sheikh Zayed Road, as well as the streets surrounding the Burj Khalifa.
