The cozzie livs might be pinching our pockets, but there’s no need to give up on the idea of a holiday just yet. Flight comparison site Skyscanner has just dropped its 2023 Travel Trends report, revealing the destinations that have seen a significant price drop in terms of flights when compared to 2022.

The destination where you can make the biggest savings is the Portuguese city of Faro, AKA the ‘gateway to the Algarve’. The average price of an economy class return booking from the UK fell by 24 percent – almost a quarter.

The next biggest savings were on flights to Algiers, Algeria, which declined by 23 percent compared to the previous year. The stunning coastal city is a culmination of Ottoman and French colonial architecture, dotted also with mosques and the remains of the citadel. It sounds well worth a visit.

Nice in France occupies spot number three, with a decline in cost of around 19 percent, followed by Dalaman and Antalya in Türkiye.

US destinations where flights have become more affordable include Boston and Los Angeles, both with a price drop of 10 percent, and New York, which had a price drop of nine percent.

Here are the best-value travel destinations for 2024, according to Skyscanner:

  1. Faro, Portugal
  2. Algiers, Algeria
  3. Nice, France
  4. Dalaman, Türkiye
  5. Antalya, Türkiye
  6. Zurich, Switzerland
  7. Boston, US
  8. Los Angeles, US
  9. Frankfurt, Germany
  10. New York, US
