New hotels pop up all the time – but they aren’t all created equal. So how are you supposed to know which ones are, y’know, good? Well, one way is by looking at those that pick up awards. Like, for instance, the World Travel Awards, which is up there with the most prestigious events in the travel industry calendar.
The 2022 World Travel Awards winners for Europe were just revealed in Majorca, with an enormous range of airlines, cruise companies and hotel brands scooping up awards. But we had our eye on one prize in particular: namely that of ‘Europe’s Leading New Hotel’.
The winner this year was Istanbul’s Mandarin Oriental Bosphorus, which beat over 20 other shortlisted hotels to take the title. The hotel opened in August 2021 and it looks out directly onto the Bosphorus Strait, with several restaurants, bars, lounges and terraces, as well as its own spa.
Mandarin Oriental is of course one of the world’s fanciest hotel brands – so it’s no big shock that the rooms here have bucketloads of space and, in most cases, spectacular views. You also won’t be shocked to learn that it’s not a cheap stay: rooms average out at about £1,000 ($1,133) a night.
Here are a few pics of the hotel and its many snazzy offerings.
The Mandarin Oriental wasn’t the only Istanbul winner at this year’s WTAs. The equally upmarket Conrad Istanbul Bosphorus picked up the award of Europe's Leading City Hotel.
