Is there a city which embodies ‘cool’ better than New York? Arguably not, and that’s why, despite there being plenty of hotels with amazing views or incredible facilities, we’ve also compiled a list of places to stay which best express the effortlessly cool aura that makes this city so iconic.
So, where is the coolest hotel in New York? Well, according to our recently refreshed list, it’s (drum roll, please!) The Standard, High Line.
Standing boldly over – you guessed it – the High Line, this hotel is a stonking, concrete staple of the Meatpacking District skyline, walking distance from Hudson Yards (to the north) and Little Island (to the south).

‘If you’re looking for sweeping city vistas, this hotel more than delivers. Every single one of its 338 rooms features a full wall of floor-to-ceiling windows with views of Manhattan or the mighty Hudson River – sometimes both.’ writes Time Out New York’s things to do editor Rossilynne Skena Culgan, ‘Steps away from Chelsea Market and (of course) the High Line itself, this is a cool alternative to the saturated hotels of Midtown if you’re in New York for the first time.’
There are plenty of slap-up local options for food, but if you’re staying, make sure to give Standard Grill on the ground floor of the hotel a go, which serves steaks, seafood, pastas and has its own raw bar. Then head up to the rooftop bar Le Bain for some seriously knockout skyline views. All sounds pretty suave, eh?
Rounding out the top three were The Hoxton, Williamsburg and The William Vale, but take a look below at the full roundup.
