Time Out Market Osaka keeps on evolving. Bringing together some of the Kansai region’s most celebrated chefs and restaurateurs in a stylish basement space just steps away from Osaka Station, the food and cultural market unveiled two new kitchens in May, when revolutionary ramen shop Tenmei and fish and chips masters Furai Guys set up shop.

And the Market is only picking up the pace in June, with four new eateries set to start serving hungry visitors by the end of the month. Here’s how the restaurant line-up at Time Out Market Osaka will expand over the coming weeks.

Le Chef du Mois

Opened June 11

First up is a new concept from decorated restaurateur Yasushi Karato, a pioneer of vegetable-focused French cuisine. Le Chef du Mois serves as a showcase for some of the city’s most in-demand culinary minds. A different guest chef will be helming the kitchen every month, putting their distinctive spin on the only food menu item available.

That offering is a three-course meal (¥2,000) composed of soup, a meaty main dish and a vegetable-forward platter that diners can customise by picking their favourites from the eight kinds of fresh, seasonal produce available at the counter. The kitchen serves only 100 meals per day, so you’d best get there before the greens run out. Psst: Le Chef du Mois also does three kinds of veggie smoothies, which are available in two sizes: 130ml (¥500) and 270ml (¥990).

Manipopo

Opened June 11

We’re calling it a coup: after building up a passionate following among K-culture fans in Higashi-Shinsaibashi, Korean ‘live izakaya’ Manipopo has packed up and relocated permanently to Time Out Market Osaka. With owner Hyunjin Kim remaining at the helm, expect a reliable line-up of staple dishes like kimbap, fried chicken, bibimbap and bulgogi, served at speed and best washed down with some soju or ice cold beer.

Creo-Ru

Creo-Ru

Opening June 14

Even in a city with several thousand takoyaki joints, Dotonbori’s eternally popular Creo-Ru stands out. The boisterous eatery has made a name for itself with faultless fare, scale – it’s got a whopping 140 seats – and picture-perfect views of the Dotonbori canal from the counter seats on the second floor.

At their Time Out Market outpost, the octopus-ball bosses will be unveiling a number of all-new takes on the quintessential Osaka dish – including takoyaki with porcini sauce and parmesan – plus voluminous lunch specials like a mapo eggplant yakisoba set (¥1,300, comes with rice, soup and green tea).

Krungthep

Krungthep

Opening June 18

Last but not least on the June slate is beloved Thai restaurant Krungthep, a Dotonbori fixture certified as authentic by the Thai embassy. The restaurant’s offshoot at Time Out Market will offer a daily selection of affordably priced khao kaeng lunch sets – essentially steamed rice served with a choice of curries and other side dishes, from pad thai to pad kra pao (from ¥1,210). You can also look forward to a range of refreshing Thai drinks and fruit-based desserts.
