Digital Performance Lab is a residency for digital media artists and developers to create and test new technologies for the stage with Orange Theatre’s ensemble.

This year, we're building a network of matchbook sized wireless sensors that can do very simple, but extremely powerful things:
1. Send and receive information (from a cue, for example.)
2. Track performers, objects, and set pieces as they move around the stage.
3. Visualize that tracking data in real time and locate it on a 3D rendering of the set

The software is built to be widget based, so any developer can drag and drop custom components for their show.
The possibilities are endless: an actor can trigger a video by walking to a particular place, a cup could trigger a sound effect every time someone drinks from it, or the color of the lights could be tied to the actor's body temperature, etc.

This past January you saw us making a lot of noise on Facebook because we were awarded the top prize in the Arizona Commission on the Arts' grant competition Art Tank (West) 2015. This project is our winning proposal brought to life. Hope to see you there!

Digital Performance Lab is supported in part by the Arizona Commission on the Arts which receives support from the State of Arizona and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Special thanks to ASU School of Film, Dance and Theatre for hosting us this June.
