For official release:
"Behind the celebration of U.S. independence and freedom that happens every 4th of July, hiding somewhere in the darkness of night and in the unsatisfied silence that follows every fireworks finale, there is a long tradition of sin and heresy in this country that has established standards of freedom we all today take for granted.

The fact that we can enjoy dancing and drinking in bars with outrageous and sometimes "inappropriate" attire are freedoms pioneered not by the Puritan Founding Fathers, but by prostitutes, gangsters, Black musicians, drag queens and transvestites. What today we take for granted was once heretical, illegal and punishable by some of the worst examples state violence. People with alternative sexualities or who defied gender norms were often sent to asylums for psychological "reform". These people were also publicly shamed for their desires and passions. Let us celebrate their desires shamelessly by enjoying the freedoms carved out for us in the past, not by lawmakers, but by people like ourselves who tread down paths less taken.

The occult imagery of HÄXAN, a doomed disco-tech and the practice of non-Christian rituals would have once gotten you tortured and killed at one point in time. Yet oppressed people still found ways to celebrate their beliefs, even if that meant hiding them in or unavoidably mixing them with the dominant Christian religious practices.

We have decided to embrace this seedier, darker side of U.S. history to celebrate the libertine side of our culture where sex, dancing, drinking, shamelessness, illegal practices in the face of tyranny and heresy are the freedoms we rejoice in.

Join us on Friday, July 3rd for an American Horror Story where freedom and heresy are one in the same."
