The event creator says
Jack Kirby is called "The King of Comics" for a reason. He co-created Captain America, the Fantastic Four, the Hulk, DC Comics' New Gods, and countless other characters. It's truly impossible to describe his impact on comics and superheroes. If comic books had a Mount Rushmore, Kirby would be two of those four heads.

Jack's birthday is Friday, August 28, and comic book shops around the world celebrate. Here in Phoenix, I know Kirby's legacy has impacted the entire creative community, so we're celebrating with a gallery show and open mic.

If you'd like to submit a work of art for the gallery, or share something on the mic, please contact me with a direct message here on Facebook (I'm here as Speed Cameron), or email me at karaokefanboypress@gmail.com. The art can be any medium (painting, print, sculpture, doesn't matter), and the mic is open to any format (poetry, prose, unscripted thoughts), as long as the material reveals the inspiration of Jack Kirby. When you message me details, we'll discuss the logistics to make sure your work is on display in the best way possible.

The open mic will be hosted by local comics mavin Jesse James Criscione, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. A short mixer will follow to enjoy the gallery, and with a way to support a local after school arts program (I'm still finalizing those details). Keep an eye on my Facebook and this event page for the latest updates, Kirby fun facts, and more!

Long live the King!
