ASU Art Museum International Artist Residency at Combine Studios says
"Landscapes and Nudes" combines two formally separate works by Albena Baeva: a video about Phoenix and a series of anthropomorphic figurines, created during the artist's residency at ASU Art Museum. Both landscapes and nudes are well-explored gŠµnres throughout art history up until today. Baeva uses contemporary technologies like 3D printing and modelling, along with principles of structural video in search of a contemporary meaning within these formats.

Albena Baeva
CEC ArtsLink Fellow, Arizona State University Art Museum

Bulgarian artist Albena Baeva is a sculptor, designer and performer, who uses a combination of elements to lure audiences into participation. In her work "The Last Benjamin," audience members were invited to cycle on a simulated bicycle, perspiring in order to provide moisture to the Ficus benjamina displayed in a vitrine, pointing to human impact on the environment. Her current interests explore processes of myth-making and social narration in an urban context. She is a founder of Runabout, a project that investigates commonalities between art forms through an ongoing series of cross-disciplinary, interactive performances. Baeva is also co-organizer of local dorkbot activities. During her residency in the U.S., Baeva looks forward to meeting with artists and students who share her interest in cross-disciplinary technological research and hopes to cultivate connections with US cultural organizations working in this area.
