In celebration of our 20th anniversary, the Deer Valley Petroglyph Preserve is proud to present Native NOW, showcasing performance and presentations by indigenous forefront leaders in art and music. The festival connects past and present, honoring today’s cultural artistry in dialogue with how tradition and identity is carried through time. The event is guest curated by Eunique Yazzie.

[ RYAN DENNISON ] Mixed media abstract artist and composer from the Diné Nation. Ryan has used traditional and modern concepts to influence his community and family to continue indigenous thought.

[ BYRON FENIX ] Senior radio producer and host of the weekly radio program Soul Deluxe, which is syndicated through Native Voice One across the U.S.

[ SHINING SOUL w/ DJ REFLEKSHIN ] Hip-Hop duo using vintage beats and empowering rhymes to bring to light the social injustices that affect the daily lives of indigenous and immigrant communities.

[ MIRACLE DOLLS ] Alternative/Punk/Indie band from Southern California fronted by twin sisters. The group has been featured on Fuse Television and in Recording Magazine and has played festivals like Warped Tour and Gathering of Nations. “Kiss Me Auras,” the group’s latest record, was produced by John Avila of Oingo Boingo.

[ Artificial Red ] Randy Kemp, a Choctaw/Euchee-Creek plays a single and double chambered American Indian flutes joined by the reading of modern American Indian poetry.

[ OUTTA YOUR BACKPACK MEDIA ] Screening works of indigenous youth’s response to the need for media justice! Learn and participate in the dialogue that is empowering insight and creating perspective.

[ MORNING STAR LEADERS YOUTH COUNCIL ] Cultivating the creative spirits of young people through the teachings and foundations of Indigenous leadership and cultural songs.

The Center for Archaeology and Society Deer Valley Petroglyph Preserve is part of the School of Human Evolution and Social Change in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. It is a 47-acre Sonoran Desert preserve that is home to the largest concentration of Native American petroglyphs in the Phoenix area.
