Organized by The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon, we are fortunate to offer this retrospective of the work of contemporary Oregon artist Rick Bartow (1946-2016). Featuring 115 drawings, paintings, prints, mixed-media works and, sculpture, Rick Bartow: Things You Know But Cannot Explain will explore the artist’s career, from the 1970s to his most recent work. We invite you to join us in sharing Bartow’s magnificent work.

The exhibition will explore themes such as: Gesture, Self, Dialogue, Tradition, Transformation, and New Work. Accompanying the exhibition will be a lavishly illustrated catalogue. In the catalogue, curator and executive director of The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, Jill Hartz, addresses the new work while her co-curator, Danielle Knapp, McCosh Associate Curator at the JSMA, discusses the other thematic sections. Lawrence Fong, former curator of American and regional art at the JSMA, examines the impact of Bartow’s New Zealand experience and American Indian heritage.

On display through June 9, 2017
