The Seed Saving talk closes out a day celebrating the launch of the Harmon Seed Library.

Join Harmon staff in a celebration of spring with an all day line-up of green fun! From 11 AM to 1 PM, participate in Phoenix Public Library's first ever "Seed Swap". This informal seed exchange is an opportunity to share seeds from your garden and meet gardeners in your community. Valley Permaculture Alliance will facilitate. Please bring your own containers and/or plastic bags for seed storage/exchange. From 1-2 PM, composting expert Gail LaTour will run a hands-on "Worm Boot Camp" where participants will learn how these creatures breakdown organic waste, produce high quality compost, and free-up space in overcrowded landfills. You may even get to take some of these efficient crawlers home with you! The day will close with a "Seed Saving Basics" program from 3-4 PM. Melissa Kruse-Peeples from Native Seeds: SEARCH will introduce the basics of seed pollination, harvesting, cleaning and storage while discussing the positive impact seed saving has on agriculture. A tomato seed saving demonstration will be presented and instructional handouts provided. No registration required. Events are free.
