Call for Shade of Freedom:

Things take time and planning and this year with changes to the parade and expectations that come with the growth of an organization like the Grand Canyon Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence we were unable to put together everything that was needed between GCSPI, Phoenix Pride and the Phoenix PD department to successfully use our Veil of Freedom. Use over the last years also has the veil in need of repair and upgrade. The veil will return. Your Grand Canyon Sisters will be present during the parade and at the Festival. Although the veil will not be present at this year’s activities, the Grand Canyon Sisters are confident that we empowered and mentored enough within the community so that our voice will be strong and our protest will be fierce.

How will we do this?

Well “We” will now strongly include “you” and your efforts to have a voice this year. The Grand Canyon Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are encouraging you to bring an umbrella, the BIGGEST one that you can safely carry and work as a community to stand with open umbrellas with your back to the protesters and the hate spewed language and ignorance that plagues the community’s festive activities. Now the Sisters have modeled this over the years so the expectation includes: 1. Follow all directions from the Phoenix PD who are supporting the event, 2. Do not do anything illegal. The Sisters want you to join us at the parade and festival this year so we can all have fun, and 3. Be mindful that you may not be able to take the umbrella into the festival so plan ahead!

The forecast (never right) is calling for clouds and maybe some rain. Umbrellas still not really needed in Arizona right? Remember that the "Shade of Freedom" that you cast is also a protective force when the sun is shining and the rays are beaming. Stay cool! Stay hydrated! Drink responsibly. Remember a lot of water and responsible adult beverage and high caffeine intake.

Good Gawd! Now the Sisters are getting all preachy…
