What is it?
Simply the best spot to try Porto’s national sandwich, the francesinha, which was invented in the 50s by a Portuguese man (Daniel Silva) who was living in France at the time.
Why is it worth visiting?
Prepare to wait (and wait, and wait) in the queue for a seat at Santiago – above all at peak times, that is, lunch and dinner. But if you’re asking if it’s worth it, the answer is yes. When it comes to tasting Porto’s best francesinha, this one is perfectly balanced – a slightly spicy sauce with a hint of acidity, layered with green-pepper mortadella, a punchy linguiça sausage, a lean steak, plenty of melted cheese and, of course, a fried egg on top.
