What is it?
One of Porto’s best areas along the Douro River (and UNESCO-protected, we’ll have you know), dotted with winding streets, brightly painted houses and lively bars and restaurants.
Why is it worth visiting?
As one of the city’s oldest quarters, the Ribeira still carries the marks of the many eras it has witnessed. Plus, you’re in Porto, so you should spend as much time as humanely possible eating, drinking and soaking up the city’s vibe – and there really is no better place for it.
Time Out tip
Make sure to try grilled sardines at one of the many food stalls (you’ll see them cooking outside in the street), and of course, a Porto tonic at one of the bars.
