Klášter sv. Jiří

Klášter sv. Jiří review Rate it

With a newly reorganised collection that focuses on Czech 19th-century art, St George's Convent seems much better matched to its task than when it was hosting the best of Baroque. The rise of the Czech middle class and its intelligentsia can be charted in the paintings, glass work and sculpture on display, offering a window into a nation on the rise (and yet still deeply rural and pastoral). Norbert Grund's charming dinner tables balance out landscapes and allegory with a good representation of the realist painters of the day: František Xaver Procházka, Christian Seckel and Ludvík Kohl.
