Beginner’s guide to different types of yoga

Beginner’s guide to different types of yoga

There’s an overwhelming amount of information out there on the internet, particularly when it comes to fitness advice, and even more so when it comes to yoga specifically. If you’ve ever been curious as to what differentiates one kind of yoga from the next, look no further than this crash course. Certified yoga teacher Jessica Sinclair (who heads The Yoga Mandala in Singapore) spelt out the differences for us.HathaYou may have seen the word ‘hatha’ before – it’s a permanent fixture on many class schedules. Jessica says hatha is the original and oldest form of yoga from which all other types stem from. It essentially refers to static postures (asanas) that are held for a longer period of time.VinyasaVinyasa is considered more of a yoga flow, and involves a faster speed with more transitions between asanas. As it incorporates more aerobic movements, it brings more of a cardio component to the practice that can complement your workout. AshtangaThis type of yoga refers to a fixed set of postures which practitioners do every day. It’s an athletic type of yoga which is fast and requires a lot of strength and control. Jessica herself is Ashtanga trained and is very, very strong. Check out her moves after wrist surgery: Wrist strength is at 80% and wrist flexibility is at 75% 🌞 Slowly getting there! Tried out some tripods snd transitions to flying pigeon and crow. Sometimes it takes getting injured to strengthen patience.. 😌🙏🏻 #theyogamandalasg #theyogamandala #lululemon #l

Battle of the fruit yoghurts

Battle of the fruit yoghurts

Rachel’s Organic Creamy Peach Bio Live Yogurt, RM11 PackagingComes in a wide tub, which makes it really easy to get to every last bit. AppearanceA friendly shade of pale yellow with visible peach pieces running through. TextureThinner and more runny than expected, but this didn’t bother us one bit. FlavourQuite heavenly. It’s got just enough of everything and manages to strike the balance of flavours just right. VerdictThis stuff is seriously delicious, though you do pay a premium for the taste. Photo: June See Chobani Raspberry Greek Yogurt, RM8.80 PackagingHefty in size, this chunky specimen is the biggest of the bunch at 170g. AppearanceWe thought there’d be a bit more colour to it (it shows up as you go through it), but it looks pretty thick. TextureFairly thick and a bit clumpy, but not in a bad way. FlavourGood for those who like things a bit more tart and sour. Chobani has a quite a number (11 that we counted!) of other flavours to choose from so if you don’t like this one, there are a whole lot more to choose from. VerdictWe were pretty divided on this one – some of us quite liked it, and others… not so much. But being a Greek yoghurt and higher in protein, this one will probably will keep you full longer than the others. Photo: June See Sunglo Low Fat Greek Yoghurt With Mangoes, RM3.20 PackagingPretty straightforward packaging – it comes in a clear tub with a lid that has a spoon underneath. Win! AppearanceLooks like yoghurt, but does it taste like yoghurt? Textu

AirAsia launches special in-flight meal for kids

AirAsia launches special in-flight meal for kids

Regional low-cost carrier AirAsia is introducing a brand new in-flight meal specially catered to the youngest passengers, available from September 28 onwards. Dubbed the Lil’ Star Combo, the meal was created for kids aged between two and 12, and features a mini wholesome chicken pizza served alongside a drink and special snack box. According to AirAsia Group Chief Commercial Officer Siegtraund Teh, the combo meal was ‘specially designed by our in-flight chef based on guests’ suggestions’. If there’s one thing we can count on, it’s that kids can be a vocal and honest bunch! We can only assume that AirAsia’s focus group would have told the grown-ups exactly what they like in a pizza. Also, lucky kids who happen to be flying on September 28 will receive a complimentary Lil’ Star Combo (while stocks last). For interested parents travelling on other dates, the combo is available for pre-booking at RM10 on AirAsia’s website. Best part of the deal is, parents won’t have to fork out extra and order an adult-sized meal for their kids anymore!
