The best matcha desserts in Sydney

The best matcha desserts in Sydney

Matcha has been around for centuries – ancient Chinese buddhists donned it ‘the elixir of the immortals’ and Japanese teishu (hosts of traditional tea ceremonies) have long been serving it in choreographed rituals. The finely grounded green tea powder is loaded with vitamins, antioxidants, fibre and chlorophyll. Aside from its health perks, it’s also praised thanks to its bold, astringent flavour and faintly sweet aftertaste. Many cafés in Sydney have caught onto the green tea craze and are dishing out matcha in all forms, from soft serve ice creams to all-Aussie lamingtons. These are our pick of the bunch. Black Label by Burger Project

Black Label by Burger Project

Rockpool Dining Group has launched the seventh Burger Project and this time they are doing things a little differently. Located in Grosvenor Place the latest addition is a slightly altered approached to the burger chain, dubbed Black Label. The CBD spot rocks a sleek, contemporary, all-black fit-out and outdoor seating, making it ideal for quick meals and impromptu after-work hangouts. They've extended the opening hours and are doing a breakfast trade, which includes ricotta hotcakes, bacon and egg rolls and house blends by Mecca Coffee. The star of the lunch and dinner menu is none other than Burger Project's premium burgers, with vegan, in-a-bowl, and double-up options available too. The upscale quick-bite eatery sources its beef from Cape Grim, Tasmania and makes its own patties in-house. The signature Black Label burger stacks a mixed patty of grass-fed beef and triple smoked bacon, pickled jalapenos, cheese, onions, lettuce and tomatoes, served with a special house sauce. The Texan burger, inspired by the all-American barbecue, is Perry’s top pick of the menu. There is also a buttermilk-brined fried chicken burger with sriracha mayo and a veggie burger with grilled chickpea and zucchini patty.

David Byrne is bringing his American Utopia tour to Australia

Acclaimed rock artist David Byrne is coming to Australia off the back of his latest studio album American Utopia. The record marks Byrne’s first solo album after a 14-year hiatus and is released in March as part of his larger multimedia project Reasons to Be Cheerful. The Australian leg of the world tour will see hit tracks from Byrne’s newest album, including Everybody’s Coming to My House and Every Day Is A Miracle; works from his art-pop collaboration with St Vincent (who is in Sydney for Vivid this weekend); and Talking Heads classics like This Must Be The Place and Burning Down the House. The American Utopia show will hit Sydney’s ICC Theatre on November 20, before leaving to Gold Coast, Melbourne and Adelaide. Byrne will take to the stage with a 12-piece band in what the ex-Talking Heads frontman has described as “the most ambitious show [he has] done since the shows that were filmed for Stop Making Sense”. Tickets for David Byrne are on sale on Monday June 18. See full ticketing details at Frontier Touring.
