Thomas Keller is not known for particularly casual restaurants, but Ad Hoc + Addendum is just that: a more laidback counterpart to The French Laundry and Bouchon down the street. Ad Hoc serves a four-course, family-style menu that was inspired by chef Keller's childhood; think BBQ smoked tri-tip with baked beans and mac and cheese and, during Sunday brunch, their famous BFC—buttermilk fried chicken. Addendum is situated behind Ad Hoc, a backyard picnic area where you can pick up boxed lunches to go or to enjoy in the garden. The legendary BFC can be found at Addendum from Thursday to Saturday, a flavor bomb of juicy chicken and perfectly crisp breading that comes with cornbread and two rotating sides.
