Award-winning bartender opens own bar in Gemma’s former space

The address may look familiar. For several years, Grev Turegatan 30 was home to A Bar Called Gemma, a favourite among bartenders when asked to name their Stockholm pick. Gemma closed this spring, and founder Johan Evers has since opened Jokes Aside on Regeringsgatan. On Friday, Bar Kabinett opened in the space, and it’s not just anyone taking over.

Oscar Jonsson Buhre joins from Lucy’s Flower Shop, where he was head bartender. He has been named Bartendernas Bartender three years running and Bartender of the Year 2025. This is his first bar of his own, and he designed the interior himself. His partner, Hjördis Lundström, is behind the visual identity.

Jonsson Buhre describes it as a cross between a living room, a classic cocktail bar and a Danish brown pub. There are lava lamps. There’s a collection of vinyl records. There’s art on the walls and details you’ll only notice on your third visit. Not big, not loud – just good, is the ambition.

The drinks list starts with the classics but refuses to be predictable: fermentation, natural acids and original takes on the Sherry Cobbler, Whisky Highball and Strawberry Fizz. To eat: curry-pickled eggs, turnip with za’atar and, of course, chilli nuts.
