Ten days, 250 concerts and jazz everywhere from Konserthuset to Slaktkyrkan. Stockholm Jazz Festival kicks off on Friday

Stockholm Jazz Festival doesn’t have a festival site. Instead, concerts are spread across the city from October 9 to 18, taking place at jazz clubs, concert halls, museums and bars.
The festival started in 1980 as a summer festival on Skeppsholmen, with Dizzy Gillespie playing in its first year. Since 2012, it has been held indoors in the autumn, with jazz club Fasching as its organiser.
Here are some places to keep an eye on.
This is the heart of the festival and the city’s best-known jazz club, on Kungsgatan. Among those performing here is British soul singer Mica Millar on October 14.
Almost exactly where the festival began, there will be concerts in the museum’s auditorium on three weekend afternoons. Hypnojazz group Tropiques, featuring Goran Kajfeš, plays on Saturday, October 10. Viktoria Tolstoy and Jacob Karlzon play on Sunday, October 11. Brazilian pianist Amaro Freitas and kora player Momi Maiga close things out on Sunday, October 18. Tickets cost 250 kronor.
Both Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong have played here. Konserthuset is a regular festival partner and will host several concerts during the festival.
The hotel by Hötorget is putting on evening gigs during the festival. On Tuesday, October 13 at 21:00, for example, Nordic Chamber Jazz Trio will perform, blending jazz and classical music.
The Slakthusområdet club venue, which otherwise mostly hosts indie, electronic music, rock and metal, is one of the festival’s main venues this year. Among those performing here is British soul favourite Yazmin Lacey on October 13.
