Stockholm is getting an urban resort. Yes, that’s what Petter Stordalen calls his new major project in Marievik, the neighbourhood between Liljeholmskajen and Liljeholmen that today consists mostly of offices, south of the city centre.

In summer 2029, Strawberry will open a hotel here with 191 rooms and a rooftop spa. The new urban resort will span more than 11,500 square metres in total. But things are already happening a year earlier, down by the waterfront.

Liljeholmsbadet, the floating bathhouse dating back to 1930, has been closed since 2016 but will reopen in summer 2028. This time, it will be a bathhouse built around saunas and cold dips, open from early morning until late evening. And it’s for everyone, not just hotel guests.

Up on the roof, the atmosphere will be rather different. The approximately 850-square-metre spa will feature a heated outdoor pool, sauna, treatment rooms, a bar and a restaurant overlooking the city.

Petter Stordalen is characteristically enthusiastic.

“We’re not just building a hotel, we’re giving Stockholm a new vibrant lifestyle destination! The contrast in this project is absolutely brilliant. Up on the roof, we’re turning up the atmosphere with a Rooftop Spa – think warm baths, great music, magical cocktails and buzzing nightlife. And down by the water, we’re bringing legendary Liljeholmsbadet back to life for ritual sauna sessions, cold dips and complete relaxation. It will be an urban resort with an energy that will be hard to beat”, he says.

The hotel is being designed by French architect Manuelle Gautrand. It is part of AMF Fastigheter’s plans to turn Marievik into a neighbourhood where people don’t just work, but also live and socialise, even after office hours.
