Father’s Day has a habit of getting lost in a sea of predictable socks and last-minute panic buys of scratchcards from Pressbyrån. This guide is here to help you celebrate properly, with great food, culture and a few well-deserved treats.

From a leisurely lunch at one of the city’s food halls to a steamy sauna session with sea views, here’s how to make Dad feel extra special this Sunday.

Psst. Fully booked this weekend? Pick up a freshly baked croissant and slip him a card promising a treat on a weekend of his choice. Equal parts thoughtful gesture and genius last-minute save.

1. Father’s Day brunch at a classic Stockholm spot

Go all out with a proper weekend brunch, where the sauces are rich and the coffee keeps flowing. Book a table beneath the chandeliers at Berns Asiatiska, head to Långbro Värdshus for some turn-of-the-century charm or splash out on a luxurious brunch at Gondolen, complete with sweeping views over Stockholm’s harbour entrance. Fancy trying the latest hot spot on Stockholm’s brunch scene? Make a beeline for Verandan at Skansen, headed up by Ida Bauhn, winner of Sweden’s Chef of the Year 2025.

3. Treat Dad to some Swedish comfort food

Some things never go out of style: Toast Skagen, Wallenberg veal patties and an ice-cold beer. Book a Sunday lunch at the classic Pelikan on Södermalm, Tennstopet in Vasastan, KB or Prinsen in Downtown/Östermalm for hearty Swedish home cooking in timeless surroundings. Is Dad one for the latest trends? Head to Kafé Söder, the latest venture from the 20 Group, in the new Söderhallarna food hall.

4. Challenge Dad to retro games or pétanque

Give Dad a match he won’t forget in a hurry. Book a pétanque court and sip on a pastis at Boulebar near Rådhuset, or head to Ugglan on Södermalm or Hey Sthlm in Vasastan for pinball, arcade classics and a proper dose of nostalgia.

Please note: Some of these venues have an 18+ age restriction. Check their websites for age limits and opening hours.

5. A leisurely lunch at a food hall

Wander between stalls piled high with seafood, charcuterie, oysters and cheeses at Östermalms Saluhall, or check out the newly reopened Söderhallarna at Medborgarplatsen. Order a selection of cured meats, smørrebrød or a seafood platter at one of the bars and tuck in right in the heart of the hustle and bustle.

Alternatively: Let Dad pick out all his favourite ingredients, then head home and cook up a lovely dinner together.

6. Kayaking along Stockholm’s waterways

See Stockholm from its best angle with a peaceful paddle along the city’s waterways. Hire a tandem kayak from Långholmen and paddle around Reimersholme and Lilla Essingen. The chill in the air makes the city feel unusually peaceful, while the views across Riddarfjärden are all the more striking.

From SEK 580 for a tandem kayak.

7. Reflect on masculinity at Fotografiska

See masculinity in a new light at Fotografiska’s exhibition ‘Faster, Higher, Stronger – Are Men Okay?’. Featuring works by 30 artists, the exhibition explores themes of masculinity and identity.

After exploring the exhibition, why not head to the new Krog Agrikultur at Slussenterrassen for lunch? And, of course, don’t miss their signature snack of pickled cucumber with honey and smetana.

8. Play interactive games at Activate

If Dad’s had enough of traditional bowling and fancies something with a lot more adrenaline, the newly opened Activate at Heron City in Kungens Kurva is the obvious choice this weekend. Think a futuristic mash-up of Fort Boyard and a life-sized video game: step into interactive rooms with glowing LED floors (where the floor really does turn into lava), reaction walls and lasers to dodge.

9. Let Dad experience the thrill of indoor skydiving

If you want to give Dad an adrenaline rush without parachutes or planes, a visit to a wind tunnel is the ultimate thrill. Slip into your flight suits and feel the rush as powerful air currents lift you off the ground. There are two options in Bromma: Body Flight, where you fly in a vertical wind tunnel, and Inclined, the world’s first inclined wind tunnel, where you can try flying in a wingsuit and even experience flight with VR goggles.

Butterflies in your stomach are practically guaranteed. The only downside? Your time in the air is over in just two to three minutes.

10. A day of simulators and go-karting

Let Dad live out his childhood dreams behind the wheel or in the cockpit. Book a session in a full-scale flight simulator at Arlanda Aviation Experience and see if he can land a Boeing in bad weather, or challenge each other to a go-kart race at Racehall, south of Stockholm.

11. Treat Dad to a proper steak

Yes, we know. Steak on Father’s Day is a bit of a cliché, but there’s a reason it never goes out of style. A perfectly cooked steak and a glass of full-bodied red wine are hard to beat. The trick is to skip the usual suspects and head somewhere that takes its meat seriously. Book a table at Kungsholmen’s meat institution Restaurang AG for a close-up look at its dry-ageing fridge, settle into the stylish surroundings at Noema or head to the Vasastan classic Svartengrens, where all the meat comes from local farms.

Prefer to celebrate at home? Stop by one of the city’s best butchers, such as ERTH in Hötorgshallen, Lennart och Bror in Vasastan, Östermalms Saluhall or Köttkompaniet (which has three locations), and pick up a hefty tomahawk steak or bone-in ribeye. Then make cooking dinner part of the fun.

12. Sauna and a refreshing dip

Want to spoil the man of the hour a little extra? Treat him to a massage, a soak in a hot tub and an overnight hotel stay, perfect for helping him unwind and enjoy some well-deserved peace and quiet. If you’re celebrating as a family, there are also child-friendly spa hotels that welcome little ones to varying degrees. Two to check out are Hotell Havsbaden in Grisslehamn and Djurönäset.
