One of Tokyo’s newest commercial complexes, the massive Oimachi Tracks development opened in late March as part of JR East’s wholesale reimagining of the Oimachi Station area. Designed with the local community in mind, the space brings together offices, residences, a cinema, book lounge, restaurants, a sauna spa and a hotel – making it just as appealing to visitors as it is to residents and workers. Here’s what to expect at the new hotspot.

Oimachi Tracks encompasses a multi-level pedestrian deck, three plazas and a spacious outdoor area, complete with a sprawling 4,600sqm Tracks Park lawn surrounded by greenery along with cafés and restaurants. Guests can look forward to various events, live performances and sporting activities around here.

The new Toho Cinemas Oimachi is a great spot to catch the latest releases, with eight screens and state-of-the-art features including Dolby Cinema – a premium experience combining cutting-edge visuals with immersive sound.

Another great place to spend time is the Share Lounge by Tsutaya. Here, you can browse and purchase books while enjoying drinks and snacks – whether you’re working, studying or simply relaxing. The store curates its collection around the theme of ‘work and leisure’, with a strong selection of film and art books to match the nearby cinema.

This is also the first Share Lounge to offer mobile ordering, allowing you to order from the food court across the street and enjoy your meal in the lounge’s comfortable setting.

For even more relaxation, head to Sauna Metsä Oimachi Tracks, a premium wellness spa by Spa Metsä, crowned No 1 in the 2022 edition of Saunachelin, Japan’s ‘Michelin guide for saunas’. The sauna is themed after a tram, with an interior reminiscent of a wooden streetcar. Press a button at your seat to release a burst of steam.

The spa also features a women-only sauna with mesh baskets of herbs and medicinal plants suspended from the ceiling, filling the space with a soothing, fragrant aroma.

The sauna’s café, Well + Craft, serves a variety of dishes and cocktails, including an original craft sour with a refreshing herbal flavour – perfect for that post-sauna thirst quencher.

On the hotel’s fifth floor you’ll find The Tailor Yard Main Dining, an all-day restaurant themed around train travel, with seating inspired by European train cars.

One floor down, the complex brings together a number of beloved local establishments, including butcher shop Oimachi Zeniba and standing bar Tachinomi 8, for a fun and distinctive dining experience. The butcher is known for its yakiniku, while the bar showcases fresh ingredients from Toyosu Market in dishes designed to pair with alcohol, such as herring roe potato salad and shuto (salted bonito) pizza.
