The Alberta Symphony Orchestra Society is proud to present “A Stradivarius for the People – Canadian Tour”, the first tour ever in Canada featuring the prestigious Antonio Stradivari violin 1715 “ex Bazzini-De Vito”.

This is a rare opportunity for Canadians to closely see and listen to an extraordinary instrument made by Antonio Stradivari in 1715, exactly 300 years ago.

The program includes a variety of wonderful works for violin and piano by composers such as Rachmaninoff (Hungarian Dance), Fauré (Après une rêve), Brahms (Scherzo in C minor), Grieg (Allegretto espressivo alla Romanza from Sonata op.45), Saint-Saëns (Danse Macabre), Franck (Allegro from Sonata in A major), Paganini (Cantabile), Bartok (Roumanian Folk Dances). Maestro Matteo Fedeli will lead the evening as well as a speaker with his introduction on the works, on the composers and disclosing the story of the Stradivarius violin built in 1715, “ex Bazzini-De Vito”.

A special participation of the ASO String Quintet for the Edmonton concert will feature Music Director Emilio De Mercato as pianist and conductor in a selection from L. V. Beethoven’s Emperor Piano Concerto, while in Calgary, Vancouver and Toronto, Maestro De Mercato will perform a solo work by Chopin (Ballade in G minor).

This Tour is made possible by the support of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Consulate General of Italy in Vancouver, the Italian Cultural Institute of Toronto, Showcase Pianos | FAZIOLI, Michael Lipnicki Fine Pianos, Casa Loma, and CKUA Radio Network.
