Authentic Movement Practice: An Introduction With Tedi Tafel says
The Somatic Movement Exploration Lab is pleased to present Tedi Tafel teaching Authentic Movement Practice: An Introduction as a part of our spring workshop series!

Authentic Movement is a physical discipline that offers the potential to bring hidden aspects of the personal and creative parts of our being into consciousness through the direct experience of the body.

The basic structure of the practice is simple: a mover moves with eyes closed in the presence of a witness, attending to sensory impulses that come from within. Leaving aside a desire to invent or direct our actions, we learn instead to listen and allow. Movement becomes the initial shaping of inner experience, bringing this otherwise invisible world into physical form. The individual practices being receptive while noticing tendencies toward judgment, analysis or interpretation; things that can remove us from what is actually happening. This workshop will introduce both the moving and the witnessing aspects of the form.

Tedi Tafel has been teaching Authentic Movement since 1993 and has studied extensively with two of the forms most eminent teachers, Janet Adler and Judith Koltai. She has worked extensively with artists of all disciplines as well as those simply desiring a greater freedom and authenticity of expression. Her own approach is influenced by her vocation as an artist and performer.
